On 26 June 2026, Gilles Grandjean, co-director of the programme, took part in a webinar organised by the Climate programme (TRACCS – Transforming climate modelling for climate services), bringing together the Risk (IRiMa) and Interacting Mathematics (Math-Vives) programmes.
This exchange highlighted the areas of interaction between these three programmes, which share common challenges around the climate, its associated risks and their modelling.

Research programmes Maths-Vives and Risk (IRiMa): developing interactions with TRACCS

PEPR Climat (TRACCS)

The first part of the webinar was devoted to a presentation of the Risk (IRiMa) programme, which studies the effects of climate change on the increase and interconnection of natural, environmental and technological hazards (floods, droughts, wildfires, extreme events, etc.). Climate science thus becomes essential to developing innovative modelling and forecasting tools dedicated to the prevention and management of these risks. The research questions target particularly exposed areas, such as coastlines, mountains, overseas territories and industrial-urban zones, all affected by hydro-climatic hazards. Once resolved, the scientific challenges presented in this context will help strengthen the resilience of societies and inform public adaptation policies in the face of the challenges posed by climate change.

The second part of the webinar focused on the Maths-Vives programme, which aims to foster and structure the interactions of mathematics with other sciences around contemporary issues, organised into three thematic areas: living systems, the environment and society. Natural synergies exist with TRACCS around the shared ambition of developing integrated models describing the interactions between climate, biogeochemical cycles, vegetation cover and functional biodiversity, in order to improve impact projections and climate change adaptation strategies. More broadly, the mathematical modelling of collective behaviours, decision-making processes and inequalities in the face of climate risks constitutes a strong area of convergence with TRACCS's work on the development of climate services.
